Achieve Your Business Results Through Executive Coaching That Yields a 500% Plus ROI

What if you could have a 500% plus return for very dollar that you invested in your employees? What would that mean for your business? Possibly right now you are thinking that this is not possible and even if it was, any business owner would jump at the chance for such an incredible investment?
First, it is true. So begin looking for that jump rope. According to a recent report by MetrixGlobal for a Fortune 500 company, executive coaching provided a 529% return on investment. This report is supported by other research including Dell Computers. Half of the 761 senior managers at Dell Computer Corporation recently received executive coaching within a two-year time period. Dell has been actively monitoring these managers through pre-determined measurements. One of these criterion indicates that executives who received coaching tended to be promoted more often than those who were not coached.
If you are now convinced that coaching is a viable strategy to enhance your bottom line, then what do you need to do as a business owner to implement a coaching program?
First, research any coach or coaching organization that you are considering. Ask for specific references where measurable results were put in place prior to the coaching. The coaching should be results focused with clearly identifiable measurements. Also, coaching certification should not be a limiting factor as many certified coaches fail to earn even mid five figures. The determining factor should be about the results that the coach has delivered with his or her clients.
Second, look for a coaching program that works with your company and can be quickly and affordably aligned to your company’s culture. This curriculum should also be easily adapted to other training and development group sessions as well as to the different roles within the organization including Executive Leadership, Management, Supervision and Leadership.
Third, coaching is a personal relationship between the coach and the client. Your employees must feel comfortable with the coach. Some preliminary communication should take place with your employees before the implementation of a coaching program.
Fourth, the coaching curriculum should be structured, proven and provide numerous opportunities for application and feedback.
Fifth, everyone in the organization needs to support and reinforce the coaching program. Management above those in the coaching program must understand and be in agreement with the program.
To be truly effective, an excellent coaching approach extends beyond the professional life into the personal life. For it is within each individual personally where the performance excellence evolves.
Coaching is a proven way to dramatically enhance your bottom line provided you incorporate at least these five strategies. By taking such action, you can achieve your goals quicker and leave your competition in the dust. That is unless of course they decide to enact a coaching initiative before you do. So what are you waiting for?

International Coach Federation - Everything You Need To Know About ICF Certification

The International Coach Federation (ICF) is the gold standard... the Grand Pumba of life coaching certification organizations. It's independent of any school and doesn't train coaches itself (in other words, there's no conflict of interest), has rigorous standards that force coaches to jump through hoops to earn their stripes, and has over 11,000 members worldwide.
Unlike the International Association of Coaching (IAC) which offers members a one-size-fits-all designation, the ICF offers three levels of credential:
The Associate Certified Coach (ACC). If you attended an Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) (a program the ICF determines meets its standards for coach training), there are a few simple requirements you need to meet to earn this designation:
Complete the accredited coach training program (CTI, CoachU, Coachville, etc.)
Rack up at least 100 hours of coaching, 75 of which must be paid
Get two letters of recommendation from ICF-certified coaches (PCC or above)
Get experience coaching at least 8 clients
If you want to get the ACC designation and didn't attend an ACTP, in addition to the above you'll need to demonstrate you've completed 60 or more hours of classroom or one-on-one coach training.
Professional Certified Coach (PCC). If you attended an ACTP, the requirements for the PCC are the same as the above with the exception of the hours of experience required. Unlike the first-level designation, PCC applicants are required to have completed 750 hours of coaching, and 675 of them must have been paid. In addition, PCC applicants must have worked with 25 or more individuals.
Master Certified Coach (MCC). To get your MCC, you'll need to have a minimum of 2,500 documented hours of coaching, 2,250 of which must have been paid. You'll also need three (not two) letters of recommendation, and be able to demonstrate you've worked with 35 or more clients.
The ICF claims that the certification process creates value in a number of ways for those who choose to complete it. I've listed out the ICF's main points and added commentary to hopefully put them in perspective.
According to the ICF, certification:
Enhances your credibility and reassures potential clients that you are an experienced and professional coach - Sounds nice, but I can virtually promise you no one will ever ask so this claim is dubious at best. Clients care about results, and want to see some evidence that you can produce them. A few letters after your name is - for most clients - irrelevant
Demonstrates that you have high professional standards - probably true. Given the high cost ($14 - $15,000) and number of hoops the ICF has created as part of the credentialing process, only serious people will invest in getting certified.
Demonstrates that you stand by a strong code of ethics - not necessarily true. Just because you complete the certification process and sign a piece of paper doesn't mean you stand by a strong code of ethics. Case in point - there was an article a few days ago in the Wall Street Journal about the unethical behavior in the ethics departments of universities across the country. Oh, the irony!
Demonstrates a high knowledge and skill level - this is true ONLY with regard to the core competencies defined as important by the ICF. Beyond that...no.
Demonstrates that you take on-going professional development seriously - true. Although coaches who choose to not pursue certification may be just as serious about their professional development. They may just make different choices based on what they think is important or what their clients need.
Develops you as a professional coach - to further enhance your skills - fair enough
Brings personal satisfaction - in achieving a career goal - in so far as accomplishing ANY goal results in personal satisfaction, true
Brings personal satisfaction - in gaining a credential from the only internationally recognized independent coaching body - depends on how big your need for external recognition is.
Reinforces the integrity of the coaching profession nationally and internationally - probably..,yes!
Certification may or may not be the right path for you. Make sure you go into it with eyes wide open. Good luck on your journey!

How to Get What You Want in Work and Life

Many of my life coaching and business coaching clients express a certain dissatisfaction and ineffectuality in both their professions and their personal lives. A feeling that yes, their credentials and accomplishments appear impressive on paper. And yet, somehow they are removed from the entire situation... almost a spectator, as events unfold that they have little to no control over.
Why is this? How can a grown individual who has clearly "made it" in the traditional sense, hold the belief that they have no say in what happens to them? Is this an imagined perception? Or is it really true that other people are calling the shots while they sit there in passive acceptance?
The answer to this question is that if they're feeling it, then it's probably happening. It's not an uncommon feeling, by any means. And no, the situation is surely not a desirable one, but it's certainly something that can be worked through and overcome. Many have moved on to living a life that's in alignment with their values and beliefs. Many people have learned to navigate their own course. You can, too.
The majority of professionals, in fact, will express at least once in their lifetime, that their lives are governed by outside influences beyond their control - people, situations, events. It happens precisely BECAUSE they have adopted this passive attitude, and it's a dead-end mindset for sure. After all - the more one holds the belief that he has no influence on his own outcomes, the less likely he is apt to try and do something to improve the situation.
I was faced with a coaching challenge recently where my client could not see that the answers to her issues were inside of her and had been all along. When I challenged her to look beyond her perceived limitations and come up with an alternative plan of action to help herself, I was met with resistance. My client expected that I would make the decisions and supply the solutions for her. But that's not what coaching is all about.
Coaching, whether in the professional or the personal sense, is a co-creative, collaborative process where one is able to move past perceived limitations and learn to have a greater impact on what's happening around them and to them. When you work with a coach, you embark on a partnership that allows you to get to know your strengths more intimately as a means of becoming empowered to live your life the way you want, and not what someone else has prescribed for you.
Some tips on how to get beyond the mentality that you are nothing more than a passenger on the road of your own life:
Instead of blaming others, begin to realize that you can influence outcomes and realize change through your own words and actions.
Instead of saying "I can't" or "I don't know how," realize that the vast power lies within you. Open your mind to learning new things, mastering new skills, growing beyond what you know today.
Instead of treating the past as a crutch that prevents you from moving forward in the future, take an inquisitive and analytical approach.
Ask questions in everything you do. Why did this work for me before, but it's not working now? What changes can I make so that things will go the way I want?
Accept disappointment as a temporary obstacle, not a crushing defeat.
Appreciate your personal gifts - learn how to use your unique talents to your advantage.
Recognize that the power to take decisive action on your own behalf is within you and has been all along.
Realize that if you don't care for the way something is playing out, you can opt out of the situation without serious consequence.
Trust that when things go wrong, you have the ability to repair the situation on both words and deeds.
Steer clear of naysayers - surround yourself with positive influences.
Instead of defining yourself by what you do, base your actions around what you believe - the things that are most important to you in the world.
Discover the ways in which you can achieve outstanding results professionally and personally.

Life Coaching - Six Human Needs

All human behaviour is driven by an instinct to fulfil one or more basic human needs. Abraham Maslow developed a hierarchy of needs model in the 1940/1950s in the USA. The original model defined five human needs, but has been added to and amended over the years. The original needs hierarchy was:
Biological & Physiological needs; (basic life needs air, food, drink, sleep, shelter, warmth, sex etc) Safety needs; (protection, order, security, law, stability) Love & Belongingness needs; (relationships, family, love, belonging) Esteem needs; (responsibility, status, achievement, purpose) Self Actualisation; (personal fulfilment and growth)
The Hierarchy of needs is still valid today to understanding motivation and personal development. We are all motivated by needs, unhappiness, stress, lack of direction in our lives all stem from an unfulfilled need. To be fulfilled and happy with life and ourselves we need to fill these six needs in a positive way.
The Six Needs Are LOVE & CONNECTION The need to fill love & connection with and for others.
PURPOSE The need to feel we have a purpose in life and are significant and have meaning to others. We are unique, special, and individual.
CERTAINITY The need to know that everything is settled and secure.
UNCERTAINITY The complete opposite of the above. The need to feel that life is interesting, challenging and exciting
We all have the ability to get these first four needs fulfilled, even if it is sometimes in a negative way. The fifth & sixth needs are not met by everyone, yet by attaining them they offer us the key to inner peace and fulfilment.
GROWTH The need for the feeling we are growing spiritually, intellectually, physically, mentally.
GIVING The need to feel that we are giving of ourselves for the benefit of others. Everyone has their own unique requirements for the fulfilment of the six needs. The degree in which they are met defines our quality of life and happiness.
Life coaching can help you identify and fulfil these needs and take you from where you are now on the road to where you want to be.

Building a Coaching Business - Finding Strategic Marketing or Referral Partners

Finding someone you can jointly market with is one great way of finding a marketing or referral partner. Think of others that either market to the same market as you do, or, might actually do what you do but from a slightly different angle.

If you've found it difficult to get initial sales meetings, finding a strategic referral partner that , by partnering, you can increase people walking through the door for both of you, you will become a Super Star for your referral partner, and you will find ways to grow your business....fast.

Who are Potential Marketing and/or Referral Partners

For me, as a business coach, here are a few businesses that make excellent strategic marketing partners. If you are some other form of coach, life coach, career coach, or whatever, use this as a springboard for your brainstorming and find partners that work well in your market.

Banks - I grow businesses, sometimes pretty fast. So, a bank can be an ideal partner because they usually have a commercial loan department who have loans out to companies that could be my clients. And, the bank sees me as a resource in several directions.
a. We both have the same clients, I refer to them, they refer to me.

b. By partnering together, they provide an additional service to their customers in growing their business through the help of the bank.

c. With 80-90% of all businesses daily, I increase the success ratio of companies (they get the immediate benefit of fewer failing loans, and when the public knows this it is an added advantage to use that bank.

d. By partnering -- I do seminars jointly with the bank. We jointly advertise luncheon "Build Your Business...Fast" seminars that brings a lot of traffic into the bank that otherwise wouldn't even know the bank. I do one on "How to Double Your Business in 3-4 Weeks" which is the most popular and fills a room fast, followed by "Improve Sales Success by 3-4 Times" and "Get 5-10 Times More People Walking Into Your Business". seminars over the next few weeks. Frequently these are luncheon series over 3 weeks, or sometimes once a month for 3 months. I'll end it with an offer to join in our mastermind group that will meet monthly in the banks board room. My original seminars are either free (sponsored by the bank), or a minimal fee, usually pays for lunch. The mastermind follow-up group is a for-fee program. There are a lot of ways to structure that. See other articles on how to structure a mastermind group.

Obstacles: Some banks may hesitate to be involved with an "unknown" who may, in their opinion, say something that would make the bank liable for a business problem. It is up to you to either give them enough track record to overcome that, or keep looking until you find the bank that will work with you. Keep looking, you will find one. Also, use your networking friends and partners to get that introduction. It opens the door for you.

Web developers -Theoretically, web developers are supposed to grow businesses. What I've discovered is that 99% of all websites don't work and the reason is that they aren't marketing companies. They are software developers who can write code for the website, or maybe graphic designers that can pretty up a website, but neither of those results in NEW CUSTOMERS, at least not very often. So, I have an opportunity here...a really big one. I help the web developer understand what is missing, and how to increase his own sales greater than he has ever imagined. I show him how to sell and market that gets his clients swarming to him. And then I have to help that web developer to make his own clients every bit as successful. One great way is to do a series of joint seminars. He'll market to his hundreds of existing clients to show them how to "Double Their Business on the Web Even Further Than They Have So Far". Of course I'll market to new prospects (my target market). We'll fill a room of people who "want to grow a business" and show them how they can grow the overall business (my participation) and how the internet can be one of those great tools (jointly, the web developer and me).

There are LOTs of other potentials out there,

IT companies work with lots of companies that are also my focus, other coaches who work in different areas of a business than I do (I'll sometimes do sales training while the coach works with the executives, or vice versa),
Radio (I do a radio show where I bring on experts of all kinds on building a business, coaches, speakers, trainers, and, although we do overlap this is a win-win. They are exposed to a MUCH larger audience, and at the same time we all build our audience. I make sure to highlight them and not me. But now I'm the coach builder (one of my target markets). My job is to always be seen as a Super Star business and coach builder. The more people that grow because I am around them the more valuable I am seen and the more people who want to partner with me.
Financial Planners, CPAs -- both work with my clients and are both involved with helping them grow financially.
Chambers -- offer to do joint semianrs with the chambers. I've found that, not matter how good my marketing has become, by partnering with a chamber the number of people replying to my marketing is approximately 2 times greater when partnering.

These are just a few for me, a business coach, and a coach's coach. So, find your ideal marketing and referral partners for your type of coaching. Who are those that either work with your ideal client, or those that do something similar....but in a slightly different way?

Do you want to learn more about how to increase your coaching businesses?

I have just completed my brand new guide to coaching marketing success. You'll also get a free invitation to join a mastermind group of other coaches as they build their business. Hear what works and doesn't work.

Undermine Yourself

When people come to me for life coaching they often have self-limiting beliefs about their own capabilities. Self-limiting beliefs are easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. They often start with a statement about something somebody thinks they cannot do and go on to use the word ‘because’.

“I can’t lose weight because my family are all over weight”

“I can’t get that job because I’m not well qualified enough”

“I can’t learn to speak Spanish because I’m too old”

These beliefs do not help us at all; in fact their only purpose in life is to hold us back. They are what they are, self-limiting. The good news is that they are fairly easy to beat and benevolent chap that I am, I’m going to give you one of the methods I use. Look, if you want more, high a life coach! Me for example

Firstly you need to uncover one of the nasty suckers so we can work on it. Think of something you would like to achieve such as losing weight, starting a new business, giving up smoking, getting fitter etc. Then think of why you believe it isn’t possible and lets start to ridicule that belief, in a nice and cuddly way of course.

We are going to undermine that belief in any way we can.

Firstly, look for examples of when you have achieved what you think you no longer can. Think really hard about this, it doesn’t need to be exactly the same thing, just similar. So, if you think you can’t lose weight because you have no will-power look for examples when you have shown will power. That way you know you have some and it’s just a matter of tapping into it. If you can’t think of any example (unlikely unless it is something REALLY tough) where you have had some success, look to others. Have there been examples of people starting a new business aged 55 or quitting smoking at 70 or getting a great job without a degree? If the answer is yes, then it can be done and if it can be done then you can do it! Stop it, you can. I’m a life coach listen to me I know what I’m talking about…..sometimes.

The most successful people model others and use their experience to short cut their way to the top. You can do that. Ask questions, get e mentor, read books, copy successful people etc.

All this process is designed to do is break the belief, nothing more, nothing less. If you believe you can’t do something then in all likelihood you can’t. When you remove a self-limiting belief you are then on your way to achieving whatever it is you want to achieve. When you believe something is possible you will be infinitely more likely to just go for it and succeed and I can’t emphasize that enough.

So, what are you waiting for? Smash that belief and just go for it

When Should You Hire or Fire a Life Coach?

Life coaching is a tool that has helped many people change or improve their lives through effective coaching sessions with a competent life coach. Although most people can benefit from life coaching, there are some things to consider when hiring a life coach.

The following tips will help you make an informed decision to either hire a life coach or let go of the one you work with currently. Keep in mind that your life coach works for you and if you do not feel you are getting your money’s worth, it may be time to reexamine your coaching relationship.

Hire a Life Coach If You Want to:

Take your personal life to a new level.

Have an unbiased listener to brainstorm ideas and goals with. Sure you have friends and family, but most will give you their opinion or tell you what you should do.

Get help with motivation, courage and empowerment.

Let go of unhealthy and unnecessary habits and thoughts.

Gain more self confidence and self determination.

Get unstuck on issues that overwhelm or create havoc in your life. Feel good about yourself.

Live a happier life and feel fulfilled.

Nurture your natural gifts, skills and talents.

Set powerful, realistic goals.

Be more efficient and improve your time management skills.

Become more organized, focused and determined.

Improve your overall health and well being.

Be encouraged to continue your personal growth and development.

Get more clarity and direction in life.

Be more balanced.

Rediscover your sense of purpose in life.

Fire Your Coach If:

Your coach starts to quote or copy the assignments from the life coaches on NBC’s Starting Over.

Your coach is never on time for coaching sessions or has frequent last minute cancellations.

Your coach tells you that you should get a divorce, quit your job or make any major decision that you are not ready to make.

Your coach is not interested in what you have to say, but what he or she wants to tell you.

You are depressed or suffering from any other mental health issues (unless your life coach is also a licensed therapist).

You dread your life coaching sessions.

You life coach tells you what to do as oppose to suggesting options.

Your life coach overwhelms you with assignments, but doesn’t follow up on them.

Your life coach has to interrupt your sessions to take another call.

Your life coach says any of the following:

“If I were you…”
“That was a dumb idea.”
“I really don't care what you think.”

You feel that you have outgrown your life coach.

Your life coach doesn’t seem to be attentive to your needs.

You don’t remember why you hired him or her in the first place.

Your life coach asks you the same questions every time you talk.

Your life coach goes on vacation without letting you know.

Your life coach seems to have no experience with your particular problems.

You wouldn’t recommend your life coach to your worst enemy.

Coaching with the GROW Model

The GROW Model, devised by Sir John Whitmore, provides a framework both for individual coaching sessions and for the whole process. The acronym stands for Goals, Reality, Options and Will, also known as Wrap-up.

Goals – coach and client agree on specific objectives. This is vital in coaching – if you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else! The coach asks specific questions to make sure the goal is in the best interests of the client and those closest to them.

Reality – the client needs to have a realistic grasp of where they are now, where they are starting from. Is the desired objective a realistic goal – what are the chances of achieving it? Do they know someone else who has achieved this already?

Options – the coach guides the client in thinking of a number of ways of achieving the goal and the client decides which way to pursue. As the coach, you are not there to lead people, you are there to help them explore possibilities so they can decide which option is best for them.

Will/Wrap-up – the client will only be motivated to go for the goal if they are excited and motivated by it. Coach and client look at the possible obstacles and how these can be overcome. Is there a secondary gain in the client not achieving the goal? For instance, it may be more comfortable to remain in the current position than make the effort it takes to achieve the goal.

The GROW Model works because it ensures that there is nothing at the unconscious level which might prevent the client from going for the goal. It checks whether the goal fits in with the client’s capabilities and purpose in life, and establishes whether the client needs to change any current behaviours or get new skills in order to be successful.

Top Ten Reasons To Work with a Life Coach for Your Personal Development

1. You may be great at competing but are not so good at playing.

2. You care way too much about what others think.

3. You keep spending money on things you don't need and it hasn't brought you any closer to happiness.

4. The life you are living in your head looks nothing like the life the rest of us are watching you live.

5. You are bored/in a rut and your attempts to break your patterns are short-lived.

6. You are so tapped out that dealing with other people, even people you like, feels like a hassle. You suspect your priorities are messed up.

7. You feel like you would go crazy if you tried to just sit for a minute and watch ants...or a sunset...or kids playing...without multitasking.

8. You haven't laughed at yourself in a very long time.

9. You are not joyfully engaged in your life. You just aren't that much fun to be around but you're too busy to figure out what needs to change.

10. You get so caught up in "what if" that you end up not doing anything.

And 2 bonus reasons!

11. You keep asking for advice but what you really want is permission.

12. You want to feel delightfully spent and happy when you die!

Should I Get A Coach?

Why should or would someone hire a life coach? Well, why would anyone purchase the services of a personal trainer, and interior designer or a sports coach - any professional "assistant" for that matter? After all, we all know how to exercise, how to hang a curtain and how to play our own game. But we hire a professional because we know that they will hold us accountable on our goals and objectives - and since we're paying good money for them to be there, often whether we show up or not, we have an added incentive to do so ourselves. We also understand that even though our knowledge of what we're doing may be strong, a professional always has tips, tools and tricks at their disposal which can save us time, aggravation and money. And we get that even the best of best can't "see themselves" from the outside and don't have the objective standpoint about their skills and abilities that a trained and experienced professional can bring to bear on any given situation.

Just as a even a top-notch athlete can benefit from the instruction and observations from an outside source (even a source whose skill does not match that of the athlete's), so can many individuals benefit from an objective, trained and focused viewpoint to help with the issues in their lives. Most people are "too close to the forest to see the trees" in their own life to make these sorts of changes or improvements themselves, or even realize that such change is possible.

Factors such as inertia, pre-programmed or biased thinking about our options and potential, unfamiliarity with opportunities or alternatives outside our normal scope of experience, etc., also make even the smallest changes difficult, if not impossible. How much harder then is it to make drastic, sweeping changes such as reorienting our life purpose, turning a business around or chasing after a long-held dream?

A coach does not have the same limited views about the client's life that the client does, and so can offer insight, ideas, frameworks, paradigms and resources that the client simply doesn't have access to. Coaches create a safe zone within which the client can explore new ideas, try out new directions, and discuss problems and concerns without fear of judgment or criticism, while at the same time providing support systems that enable the client to move forward at whatever pace the client desires.

Life and personal coaching is for anyone who wants: change, joy, a new outlook on life, a better version of the old outlook on life, skill improvement, access to life-improvement resources and tools, a new career, a new life, renewed enthusiasm for their current life, adventure, energy, a sense of freedom, help finding a new direction, help dealing with their current direction, more fun, help setting up systems to support their goals and dreams and many other such quality of life improvements. If that describes you, then why not give it a try? The worst you could do is nothing at all.

Life Coaching - What It Is All About

The word coaching comes from the word stagecoach which involved moving people from one place to another. That is exactly what coaching is. You decide to move from one place to another and you have a coach there to help you. It seems simple, but it is extremely powerful and it has the potential to change your life for the better.

Do you feel stuck in a rut? Do you want more out of life? Coaching is ideal to get you out of that 'rut.' It helps you focus on what you want out of life, and then create a plan to help you move toward that. Coaching is about the future. It will focus on your growth and development as you are moving toward achieving your goals.

It can also involve working with successful people who want to improve further. The support and challenge of a coach can help someone on this journey.

Interest in coaching is growing rapidly and it is becoming increasingly popular. More and more people and organisations recognise its value. Coaching has become particularly relevant in our fast- moving world where there is a struggle to balance work, social life, health and finances.

One of the great things about coaching is that you, as a client, use it for whatever area of life is important to you. Some people seek coaching for support in making a career change, building confidence, reducing stress, or achieving a better work-life balance. Coaching can be used for whatever is important to you at a particular time.
