These are several ways to finding the right life coach. By word of mouth, Online using Google, The International Coaching Federation, local coaching groups. A Life Coach is Your Partner in Success
A life coach is like a personal trainer in the gym, except for all different aspects of your life. They help you develop confidence to face certain situations and teach you how to conquer your fears. Fulfilling our potential is often difficult to do all by yourself; a life coach is the one who specializes in motivation and developing the necessary skills to be successful in your personal life or career. A good life coach even helps with business skills like leadership and time management. But success takes discipline and a lot of hard work, which is exactly what life coaches help you achieve.
The first step is to free your mind from the negativity that can destroy your confidence and chances of success. Both executive and life coaches can help you break the self-sabotage cycle, overcome mental blocks such as fear, and teach you to think positively to be a winner in the game of life!
Beating the Self-Sabotage Cycle
Most people face negative feelings and mental blocks at some point in their lives. Often, these feelings are self-created and conspire to sabotage their confidence and determination - the two most essential elements required to succeed in life. We have all indulged in negative self-talk at some point in time. The problem is that it gradually leads to self-sabotage - killing our faith in our abilities. It usually goes unnoticed and we may attribute our failures to our inadequacy. Frequent failures, in turn, strengthen negative self-talk leading to a vicious cycle. If you suddenly abandon a goal at the halfway point for no reason, or if you feel something is stopping you from going ahead but you just can't put your finger on what it is, then you can be sure that the negative elements of self-sabotage are at work. If you have an urge to do something and yet you don't allow yourself to do it or don't feel that you have the ability to do it - that is self-sabotage is at its best.
Keeping your emotions in check is crucial to breaking out of the self-sabotage cycle. A life coach will help you control your emotions, which in turn helps regulate your actions. They also help you evaluate any failures in the past so that you can build from that experience. By understanding what may have gone wrong in the past you will gain a new perspective and be better prepared to face challenges in the future.
Overcoming Fear
Fear is another reason people fail to achieve in their careers and personal lives. Fear of failure, criticism, rejection, and speaking in public are some of the many things that can stop you from getting the success you want - and deserve. These factors are even more damaging if you are a business owner. An executive coach can help you to make a conscious effort to expel negative feelings and focus your energies to attain your goals. If you want a thriving business, you have to learn to deal with the 'fear factor' and practice positive thinking.
Feel the fear - but go for it anyway!
The Phenomenal Power of Positive Thinking
It is very easy to feel great and have a positive attitude when things are going well. However, the real challenge lies in maintaining a positive attitude when times get tough. A positive attitude is all it takes to resolve most problems, both personal and professional. You cannot overlook the phenomenal power of positive thinking. A 'yes, I can do it' attitude can help you realize practically any goal in your life. Both executive and life coaches emphasize the importance of positive thinking to overcome difficulties and come up with viable solutions. With positive thinking, you will harbor only those thoughts, images, and words that create circumstances conducive to your growth and success. A positive frame of mind enables you to anticipate only positive outcomes from every action and situation.
Both executive and life coaches emphasize the importance of positive thinking and gratitude to enhance your life and take it to the next level. When you strike a dialogue with your subconscious mind, make sure that you indulge in positive self-talk. You cannot change your thinking overnight, but with the help of your coach you will be able to build a lasting confidence by understanding your true potential. Your life coach will help you to deal with the negative inner critic deep within you and keep it at bay. With the help of your coach, you will boost your self-esteem by dealing with these core issues. Positive thinking is as contagious as a smile. It spreads around us instantly creating an atmosphere that attracts success.

Get A Life Coach! The Why's Of Hiring A Professional Coach
Before I found Life Coaching, I considered myself very productive, a goal-getter, and over-achiever. Growing up, whatever I put my mind to, I got it done and as a result, I began working as a federal officer for the federal courts at a very young age. While everything I had done in the way of education and goal-setting had gotten me to this high-paying job which allowed me to buy a home, pay off my car, have nice clothes, and eat at extravagant restaurants, it also got me to another place in my life that was not so attractive nor appealing at all. I ended up in the place of, "I hate my job and therefore hate my life!" Obviously not a very good place to be.
When looking back at why my goal-setting only worked up to a point, I noticed it was because I put all my passions aside in hopes that I would revisit them at a later date...you know, after I finished my undergrad work, then my master's, and after I got settled into my career. But of course, after I got established so to speak, I was too focused on the details of my job, my life (bills, relationships, etc.) to really feed the fire of my big dreams and visions.
All my life I was taught to go get a good education, make lots of money, and work my way up the professional ladder. I hung on to every word my parents, teachers, and bosses told me with respect to career, marriage, money, and life. While I was grateful for some of the lessons they shared, I soon realized I had not tapped into my own thoughts on those aforementioned subjects. And, when I tried to listen to my own ideas I soon realized I was too caught up in the opinions of others. It wasn't until I started working with my first Professional Coach that I was given permission to truly be me by listening to myself and MY heart's desires, not the desires that others had for me.
My first session with my Coach consisted of looking into the future 20 years and seeing what I WANTED to see. I visualized how I wanted my life to be, how I wanted to be as a person, where I wanted to live, what I wanted to be doing and who I wanted to be doing those things with. I felt alive, excited, rejuvenated, and connected to myself for the first time in I don't know how many years. Even more thrilling was that I felt determined to take action steps into making this visualization become a reality and aimed to have this dream life sooner than 20 years.
It is now six years after that first Coaching session and so much has changed for the positive in my life: I have since quit that loathsome job, just returned from living in Europe for six months, am getting married to the man of my dreams, and work full-time from home as a Professional Coach, workshop leader, and motivational speaker.
If you find yourself saying you cannot have the life you have always dreamed of, that you must continue to work for a job you just cannot stand, don't have enough money to take that dream vacation or buy that dream house, perhaps Life Coaching may be the very thing you need to get you back in touch with your "true" self and your heart's most passionate desires.
Life Coaching gave me the gift of creating an amazing life and I want to give you that very same gift! So, I challenge you to take a stand for having the most incredible, fabulous, and fantastic life you can possibly have. Stop setting goals that are not alignment with your biggest dreams, passions, and desires, and instead consciously create a life beyond your wildest dreams. And, if you don't know where to begin or how to start, get a Life...Coach!

Life Coaching vs Therapy
As Life Coaching becomes a more popular method of navigating life’s complex paths, there are a lot of questions about whether or not it is traditional therapy, how it may relate to therapy, or if they are interchangeable.
In therapy, the focus is on dealing with the past. Therapists lead their clients through the healing process, helping them develop coping skills that they can eventually use on their own, once they have achieved wholeness. A skilled therapist can help clients reach the source of their fears – the obstacles that typically prevent us from achieving our highest potential.
In Life Coaching, the focus is on the present and the future. Coaching clients may have already experienced therapy and will therefore expect the same type of experience. However, as a Co-Active Coach®, I work hand-in-hand with my clients as they lead the way. A skilled Life Coach helps clients manage their fears, minimizing them so that they can live a healthy life and achieve even higher goals. The Life Coach also helps clients uncover hidden passions, resulting in a more fulfilled life that is focused on values-based decisions. She holds her clients as creative, resourceful, and whole from the very beginning of the relationship.
Traditional therapy and Life Coaching can complement each other. However, if a therapist is using coaching techniques, it is best if the client knows that a coaching technique is being applied. The client is empowered in a much more holistic way whenever coaching techniques are used to enhance the client’s therapy experience.
As a Life Coach, I am trained to listen for cues and to use my training, intuition, curiosity, experience, and resources. With all these “tools,” I guide my clients down the paths that they themselves choose. In most cases, my clients are not even aware of the paths that they have already unconsciously chosen. That’s where my expertise as a Life Coach comes into play. We walk these paths together, discovering new dreams, goals, and opportunities. The result is a more fulfilled, balanced life for each of my clients, and, in many cases, a new direction toward a dream previously unrealized.
Carol Janssen has been a Life Coach since 2000. She is also an accomplished public speaker. Her workshops and retreats are focused on foundational life work, including spiritual growth, reconnecting with core values, living in the public eye, creating a fulfilled life, and many other topics. Carol’s training with the Coaches Training Institute has provided her with a solid basis for working co-actively with her clients and with groups. As a leader, Carol believes that many people have untapped potential, which can be liberated by working with her through obstacles that can be overcome through compassion, listening, and accountability. In Coaching, The Only True 'Expert' Is Yourself
The traditional definition of an ‘expert’ is someone who can help the client to deal practically with difficulties in the real world - who has specialised knowledge of a particular aspect of that world, and therefore is able to identify and help to resolve the practical difficulties that arise from the client's lack of expertise in that particular field of endeavour. By virtue of the fact that he knows more about a particular subject than the person who is asking for help, he (or she) therefore has the power to resolve the client's difficulties - power that the client doesn't possess. That's what the client pays for. You go to a dentist, for example, and you ask for his expert, professional help. You have pain that you can't do anything about, but he knows about teeth and he can do things to your teeth that you can't do. So we can define an expert as someone who has a practical set of skills which you need but don't intrinsically possess.
If we as coaches put ourselves up to ‘help’ someone, then what we're doing is, we're saying in effect that we’ve got some kind of intrinsic expertise, some special procedures which we’ve acquired as the result of some previously purchased training programme, that our clients need to be subjected to before they can come to terms with their problems. But any tuition that fails to take account of the fact that the coach, too, needs first to explore and then to accept his or her own imperfections, is bound to be more than just ineffective – it’s downright dangerous!
It's really disingenuous to believe that a coach can 'help' the client by assuming the inappropriate role of an expert if in fact he hasn’t first done the necessary homework on his own problematic stuff. When you think about it, that really doesn't make sense. In unitive coaching, we never lose sight of the basic fact that problems don't exist in the real world, but only in the way we’ve been conditioned to perceive that world. The client actually has everything he needs to live an authentic life. His problem is, that he’s been programmed not to accept it. The whole point of the unitive approach to coaching is not to offer help, but to facilitate the client to help himself. The unitive coach works with the client on a level playing field - faces the client as another vulnerable human being – and accepts without question the client's humanity as being intrinsically the same as his own
Truly life-changing and effective coaching is concerned with what the philosopher Heidegger called Dasein -‘being-in-the world’ – that is, the fact that we are not separated from the physical world in which we find ourselves at any given moment but an integral part of it – dissolved in it, of the same substance. There is actually no need to resist it, fight it, or to try to change it. There’s no ‘it’ out there. That’s why unitive coaching appeals to individuals who, although they may have achieved many of their material goals, need to re-establish an enduring sense of fulfilment, calm and joie-de-vivre. It understands that problems do not exist 'out there', but are internalised within each of us. It knows that once we get in touch with who we really are, we don’t have to worry about what we should do, ought to do, must do. It’s only then that our activities will become free of conflict - spontaneous, and authentic: valid responses to the real, presenting world.

Important Life Coaching Advice For Children
I have just returned from my twelve year old step-daughters parents evening. It was an interesting hour and I believe my daughter has learnt quite a lot from the experience. The teachers gave her some important life coaching advice which I will write about in this article.
My step-daughters name is Taryn and she is basically a very bright and well behaved child. One of her faults however is that she just does enough, she is not naughty at school but does not give one hundred percent to her studies.
Before we attended the parents evening we had the opportunity to read her school report. Taryn thought this report was very good as she was above average in her year, this was certainly borne out in her recent examination results. What annoyed both me and her mother was the regular comments that Taryn does not ask enough questions, that she does not contribute enough in classroom discussions and that her homework seems rushed.
We were also aware that even though the exam results were good, that they could have been even better as she did not do any revision. We told her that even though she was above average that we were not happy with some of the comments made which suggested that she could and should have done even better. Taryn was not happy by this and had quite a big strop thinking that we were just being cruel.
Taryn loves to play sport and has been a regular in the netball and athletic teams. The first teacher she took us to see was her sports teacher who Taryn assumed would be very happy with her. This teacher first asked how we as her parents thought Taryn was getting on, in general at school. We voiced our concerns and the teacher agreed as she had read the whole report and was also not that pleased with it. She looked at Taryn and told her that in sport she always gave one hundred percent and asked her why she did not have the same attitude in Maths and English. Taryn did not know what to say and seemed quite shocked. The teacher stated that even though sport is important, the other subjects should come first and that if she did not see a marked improvement over the next few months, that she would drop her from the netball and athletics team.
Next was the English teacher. He told all of us that Taryn was very clever but that she needed to take more of a pride in her work. She needs to check what she has completed before she hands it in, as the only real errors she makes are just silly mistakes. He believed that even though Taryn was in the top thirty percent that she should be in the top ten percent.
All of the teachers we met gave Taryn the same message. Do not accept second best, always give one hundred percent, spend less time on the computer and more time reading and revising.
By the end of the evening poor old Taryn looked shell shocked. She now understands what to do and certainly does not want to be kicked out of the sports teams.
I was more than pleased with the schools attitude and believe that Taryn has been given some important life coaching advice.
