Mental preparation is something we do not often take into consideration when embarking on dietary changes. We prepare mentally for exams, activities, job interviews, but who ever thinks we need to mentally prepare to change our diets? Any change we make to our current life-style and dietary habits require some form of mental preparation to achieve the desired results.
You have to know what motivates you and what motivates change. You will experience days where you will feel like defeating your hard work. Will power and social influences are the most common defeaters. But with careful planning and future pacing you will identify hidden obstacles and move forward with little disruption to your goals.
So you have decided you want to DETOX. You have read numerous articles and heard the DETOX buzzword mentioned around the hip and trendy. You may know the physical reasons for wanting to DETOX; weight loss, food intolerance, bloating or just to get into great shape for summer or that special occasion.
Whatever your reasons for DETOXING may be, you need to take into consideration the WHY behind the WHY. Knowing why will identify you deep level motivation and passion for achieving your goal. WHY holds value and is of great importance to your sub-conscience, this reason alone will be enough to motivate you and will be the deciding factor on whether you complete or DETOX successfully or not.
Think back in the past, what triggered you to change your diet. Was this trigger physical or emotional? What words and pictures were associated to this trigger? How did you feel? What words did you say to yourself? These questions uncover the underlying reason why you decided to take action in the past.
Before discovering your motivation for DETOXING, think about what results you achieved in the past. Answer the following questions truthfully.
What have you have tried in the past?What results did you achieve? What prevented you from achieving your goal at the time? What would you do differently this time around? Next, think about what is going on in your life right now that you would like to change. What are you so tired of living with?
By successfully identifiying what motivated you in the past, the results you achieved then you can specifically identify what you would like to change today.
Reaching for success: WHY
Why do you want to detox? Make sure you state your goals in positive terms and be specific. E.g. I WANT to feel energized. Instead of I DON'T want...
Once you have stated all your goals in positive terms, consider these questions and relate them to each goal.
How will look once you have achieved your goal?What kind of things are you saying to yourself?What are people saying about you?What are you doing? E.G. shopping for new clothes, taking part in a new activity.How are you feeling at this time?On a scale of 1-10 (1-low 10 -high) how motivated are you to begin your DETOX?What could prevent you from completing your DETOXWhat could you do to stop these obstacles from stopping you?
A well thought out plan accompanied by support, motivation and understanding as to why you are embarking on a specific goal provides the necessary groundwork or foundation for success. Apply this strategy not just to your health but your life and starting living your dream of a healthy body and mind.
