Life coaching is becoming more and more popular among people today. A life coach is part advisor, part sounding board, part cheerleader, part manager, and part strategist. They help you to break down everything into easy, manageable goals that are achievable.
A Life Coaching is NOT...
1. .. About 'fixing' broken people. It is not therapy or counselling. In fact, many clients that come to a life coach, are already quite successful, but they recognise that to get to the next level of success, they need to make a few adjustments and that is exactly what a coach will do.
2. It is not just a social meeting or casual friendship. Both the coach and the client need to attend the sessions ready to work. Coaching is not just pleasant chit chat. The role of the coach is to help the client move forward, overcome obstacles and achieve goals. Although it can be fun, it is also hard work.
3. It is not 'One Size Fits All' One of the greatest things about Life Coaching is that it is tailor made to the client. Each person's goals are different and so each session will be different depending on the desired outcome. The coach is not there to insert a general formula on every client, rather they want to teach the client how to manage life, address issues and opportunities they are facing. It is about the client learning how to better their own life.
I applaud those who have not been too proud to step up and seek out a coach because it shows that they are truly interested in taking an active role in creating a better future for themselves.
